Montalcino is a medieval hilltop town, surrounded by dramatic Tuscan fields of the Val d'Orcia region. It's a rustic, understated town yet it boasts a big wine game with its prestigious Brunello wine, which, was actually first wine to ever receive the DOCG denominazione for excellence.

We had the most magical and memorable experience whilst here. We quickly discovered we could spend 3 weeks in Tuscany and not touch the surface!

We were lucky enough to visit Montalcino and surrounds during the olive harvest season. Only in Italy would 'olive oil and bread' be on the day's 'specials' board. But oh was it a stand out!

We then had the most unexpected immersive introduction to Tuscan wine in town where we tried 29 wines, lead by a sommelier. We would recommend this as all tastings can be reimbursed if you purchase wine. Good luck finding your way home afterward.

Nearby, you have Pienza (the home of pecorino), Montepulciano and Val d'Orca valley.

We hope you enjoy all the magic Montalcino and Tuscany has to offer!

Sesti Wine Estate - Eclectic wine estate whose creator was an astronomer - looks pretty cool!

Il Palazzone winery - This seems like a gem. From what I've read this is a family run estate with a very personalised and authentic experience. Sounds right up our alley! They are also know for their olive oil.

Enotecas

Caffe Fiaschetteria Italiana 1888 Srl  - In the photo to the right -> Eclectic Italian caffe with charm. There is also a wine bar through the back.

Enoteca Di Piazza  - we stumbled across this place in the centre of town and ended up tasting almost 30 wines. If you really want to get an overview of the wine in the region this may be a good place to start.

Enoteca Grotta Del Brunello  - Pictured here! they offer tastings and small plates (I think dinner too?) they write out the names on the glasses so you know exactly what you're trying. great spot to people watch.
